Bridget Jones of counsel to SML LLP, specializing in intellectual property, real estate and other business transactions.
Ms. Jones’ legal practice focuses on all aspects of intellectual property law, including patent and trademark prosecution, copyright protection, intellectual property licensing, trade secret protection and regulatory affairs.
Ms. Jones frequently advises clients on how to develop a broad portfolio of intellectual property assets by identifying, protecting, and monetizing technology developments. She develops intellectual property strategies for licensors and licensees tailored to each client’s technology, sector and geographic market, including international markets. These strategies include lifecycle management and exclusivity policies. Ms. Jones structures entities to maximize protection and licensing revenues for intellectual property assets.
Ms. Jones works closely with inventors, entrepreneurs, technologists, motorsport team owners and real estate developers and investors to structure, negotiate and document business formations, early round financings, technology licenses, real estate transactions and other business transactions.
Ms. Jones also counsels athletes regarding sponsorship and endorsement agreements.
With SML’s Christopher Tomaszewski, Ms. Jones initiated Ronald v Bank of America, the leading mass joinder case on behalf of homeowners alleging fraud and unfair practices by Bank of America and Countrywide Financial Services.
Prior to graduating from law school, Ms. Jones worked as research assistant and later became a patent scientist for a biotechnology company in Davis, California. She was also a law clerk in the legal department of MTS Inc., the parent company of Tower Records®, where she was responsible for preparing ICANN domain name infringement proceedings against cybersquatters.
Before joining Apex Legal Group PC in 2009 as a partner, Ms. Jones worked in a boutique intellectual property firm in Silicon Valley where she prosecuted patents in the mechanical, electrical, and software arts. In February 2011, Ms. Jones affiliated with SML, while also continuing as a partner in Apex Legal Group.
Ms. Jones received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Davis in Biological Sciences, a J.D. from University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento and an LL.M. in Intellectual Property Law from Santa Clara University of Law in Santa Clara, California.
